too was where passing troops paraded. It was here, on 1 and 2 March
1815, that a small troop of men who had landed in Golfe-Juan after
escaping from the island of Elbe with their legendary leader, Napoleon,
spent their first night on French soil. The rue Bivouac-Napoleon
commemorates this brief halt. Legend has it that Pauline Bonaparte
stayed in the little Gazielle inn. |
