| In
December 1834 Lord Brougham discovered Cannes and made an enormous
contribution to its development and expansion. On 14 June 1838 the
port of Cannes was created. In 1850 the municipal authorities began
to take an interest in the project of a boulevard along the shore;
the construction of the chemin de la croisette was begun. Soon
it was lined with hotels and villas, pavements were added, palm
trees planted. The new road took the name of Boulevard de la Croisette
in 1872. The curtain rose on the splendours of the Belle Epoque. |
